Looking for a shooter but don’t want another Counter Strike or Call of Duty? Try World of Tanks. This game combines a shooter with tank simulation (arcade style). And it’s that arcade style that keeps the gameplay quick and exciting. World of Tanks is one of only a few games to keep my attention for over a year now. The game boasts multiple exercises where it is possible to win gear, consumables and even premium tanks. Some events return every year like a soccer game with tanks. Other only happen 1 time like the current 100 year anniversary of the first use of tanks on a battlefield.
The game also works with different classes of tanks. Every class comes with its own roles. Though some tanks have dual roles. Some light tanks are ideal snipers. Most people will complain when you don’t follow the standard rolls. However it’s more important to play the game the way you want and have fun doing it. But that goes for all the games you play.
Light tanks. Scouts of the game. Some know how to make the most of these pesky little machines. Quick and agile they are the scourge of some heavy tanks and tank destroyers. More maneuverable than most tanks these little buggers can take on most heavies (when decently equipped). One tip from me to you.. Move, move, move! Try not to stand still in one place to long. It will get you killed very easily.
Medium tanks. Slightly more bouncy and sturdy these medium tanks can pack a punch and take one (also depending on gear and modules). Though there are some exceptions most mediums are combined best with a heavy tanks or 2nd wave of attackers. If a heavy feels to clunky or slow try one of these. Though you should be aware that not all mediums are fast.
Heavy tanks. Some of the biggest and best armored vehicles in the game. Most of them will be slow and clunky. They are hard to drive and even harder to master. You are the vanguard of the attack group. You get the first punches before rolling over the corpses of your enemies. Masters of Derp like the KV-2 and the Japanese heavy line need backup from mediums to survive. Do you have what it takes to drive your own bouncy castle?
SPG’s (self-propelled guns). Arty.. Saviors to some.. Sky cancer to others. Weakly armored you will hardly see these things rolling through the field with you (though there are 1-2 exceptions). These things are easily spotted due to their camo rating. Especially when they shoot. They are loud, big and unpractical. But if they hit.. They hit hard. So if you don’t like active rolls in shooters you might want to take a look at one of these. Sit back and click, click, click.
Tank destroyers. The last in the list of classes. The TD is a dangerous one if played correct. The rules for the TD is stay hidden and shoot on sight. You won’t have the armor to take to many hits but you will have the gun and the range to deal some excellent damage! Some TD’s have very good mobility some others are slow cumbersome vehicles.
Watch and learn kiddies.
The problem with learning how to play WoT is that sometimes getting stuck in with the game is not always the best idea. Sometimes you need to have an example (whether it’s a good one or a bad one is up to your). Seeing people work certain tanks can prove a great help. Also seeing how not to use a tanks can be an equal or greater help.
My suggestion is look at the youtube channels of The Mighty Jingles and/or Quickybaby. That last one also gives you tips on how to take on certain tanks and shares his views on most tanks. Jingles covers some good games but also shows the best screw-ups you can find online. And off course we love our “bloopers”.
Playing the game vanilla is ok but add in some helpful mods and you will get the most of the game. Some mods will give you a nice advantage; like zooming in and out further. Others will just give you more information. My favorite mod is actually a mod pack filled with helpful modifications. It is called Odem Mortis. Their mod pack is free to use and really really handy.
